Pansies - ‘Swiss Giants Mix’ seed (top of the line variety) is a large-flowered, heirloom pansy that comes in a mix of blue, orange, purple, red, white and yellow. Flowers have a contrasting, dark blotch. Pansies are perennials but are generally treated as annuals. They are quite cold resistant. Use this plant in containers, beds and borders. It is a wonderful addition to a butterfly, pollinator, cottage, fairy or edible garden. Or plant it in woodlands or meadows, beside ponds or along slopes or banks.
Hardy and versatile with gorgeous rich color blooms from chilly fall to spring. Once planted in the garden, pansies may reappear for several years because they self-sow. When the weather warms in late spring, pansies begin to fade because they have a low tolerance for hot weather.
Pansies have one of the widest color ranges of any garden annual; blooms range from red, purple, blue, bronze, pink, yellow, black, lavender, white, orange and burgundy. Pansies are often known as the “face flower” and a single bloom may have up to three colors mixed in the delicate flower.
Strictly speaking, sweet violets, bedding violas, and pansies are all classified as “violas.”
They are hardy (Zones 2-9) plants and can continue to bloom through the winter in mild climates.
